Progress FNQ team and recovery-focused support

Our Story

A local team dedicated to supporting mental health recovery in Far North Queensland.

Acknowledgement of Country

Progress FNQ acknowledges the Gimuy Walubara Yidinji and Yirrganydji peoples as the Traditional Custodians of the lands and waters where we live and work. We pay our respects to their Elders past, present, and emerging, and recognise the healing power of Country that connects us all.

Who We Are

Born in Far North Queensland, Built on Recovery

Progress FNQ was founded with a simple belief: that everyone deserves the opportunity to live a meaningful life, regardless of their disability or mental health challenges.

Progress FNQ was established after recognising a significant gap in Far North Queensland: the need for a provider who genuinely understands the complexities of disability, mental health recovery, and the everyday challenges people face, and who can deliver personalised, boutique support rather than one-size-fits-all services.

Our founder, Morie Lahai, brings formal qualifications in Social Work and Mental Health (BSW/MMH), alongside years of hands-on experience supporting individuals through their recovery journeys. This professional expertise, combined with a genuine passion for empowering people to live meaningful and self-directed lives, forms the foundation of Progress FNQ.

Today, Progress FNQ continues to grow while remaining firmly grounded in our values. We are small enough to know every participant by name, yet experienced enough to deliver professional, evidence-based supports that create real and lasting outcomes. Our focus remains on building strong relationships, fostering independence, and walking alongside participants at every stage of their journey.

Our Mission

To provide personalised, recovery-focused support that empowers individuals to build confidence, independence, and meaningful connections in their community.

Our Vision

A Far North Queensland where everyone living with disability mental health challenges has access to quality support and the opportunity to lead a fulfilling life of their choosing.

Our Values

What Guides Us

These principles shape every interaction, every decision, and every service we provide.

Recovery is Possible

We believe that with the right support, everyone can work towards their goals and live a meaningful life. Hope is at the centre of everything we do.

You Lead The Way

You are the expert in your own life. We are here to walk alongside you, not to direct your path. Your goals, your pace, your choices.

Strengths-Based

We focus on what you can do, not what you can't. Everyone has strengths and abilities. Our job is to help you recognise and build on them.

Genuine Relationships

We build real connections based on trust and respect. Our staff genuinely care about your wellbeing, not just the tasks they perform.

Cultural Safety

We respect and honour the diverse backgrounds of everyone we work with, including First Nations peoples, CALD communities, and LGBTQIA+ individuals.

Continuous Learning

We are committed to staying current with best practices in disability mental health recovery, always looking for ways to improve our support.

The Recovery Model

We use a recovery-oriented approach to disability mental health support. This means we don't focus on "fixing" problems or managing symptoms. Instead, we focus on helping you develop skills and build the life you want.

Recovery is not about returning to how things were before. It's about moving forward, finding meaning and purpose, and developing new ways of living that work for you.

This approach recognises that you are the expert in your own experience. Our role is to provide information, options, and support, but the decisions are always yours.

Our Approach

Recovery-Focused Support

Disability mental health recovery is a deeply personal experience. What works for one person may not work for another. That's why we take an individualised approach to every person we support.

  • Hope and optimism for positive change
  • Choice, control, and self-determination
  • Whole-of-life, holistic support
  • Community connection and inclusion
  • Building practical life skills for independence
